Sad news appeared on the front page of some Indonesian main newspapers this morning: Ébét Kadarusman, a well-known TV and radio broadcaster, died yesterday morning at a Bandung hospital. He was 74.
According to Ensiklopedi Sunda (2000), Ébét was born in Jakarta on 7 July 1936. His father, R. Adang Kadarusman, is one of founding fathers of the sate run Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI). From 1956 to 1959 Ébét studied at University of Adelaide, Australia. He taught English at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) for a couple of years. From 1961 to 1986 he worked as a broadcaster with the Indonesian Section of Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Radio in Melbourne. Returned to Indonesia in 1986 he hosted a well-known television show named “Salam Canda”.
