Today former M.P. Tjétjé Hidajat Padmadinata celebrated his 75th birthday. His relatives and friends, along with Bandung Mayor Dada Rosada, joint a party at the pendopo* of City of Bandung this morning.
Marking this special occasion, Tjétjé [che che] issued two books: Identitas Bandung (Bandung Identity) and Siliwangi & Demokrasi (Siliwangi and Democracy), both were edited by Iip D. Yahya and published by Rumah Baca Buku Sunda.
Identitas Bandung is a collection of Tjétjé’s columns, dealing with several aspects of cultural, social, and political life of the city. Since 1960s he has regularly written columns for some local newspapers, mainly the Bandung-based Pikiran Rakyat. The new book compiles some of his writings.
The second book deals with political development in Indonesia under Suharto, mainly with the role of Siliwangi Military Division, following the fall of Sukarno in the second half of 1960s. In this book Tjétjé puts forward his remarks on what had to be done in rebuilding Indonesia at the time. Siliwangi & Demokrasi was limitedly published for the first time in 1969.
Tjétjé was born in Bandung on 22 June 1935. A father of four, Tjétjé started his political career in AMS (Angkatan Muda Siliwangi/Siliwangi Youth Force), a powerful mass organization in West Java that is strongly affiliated with Siliwangi Military Division. In the reign of Suharto he was a member of Indonesian parliament for more than one term.***
