Senior choreographer Enoch Atmadibrata was admitted to a Bandung hospital on Thursday, 9 December. He is treated at Tulip Room 210, Kebonjati Hospital. The 83 years old man suffers from prostate, diabetes, and cholesterol problems. According to his close friends, his condition has been growing worse. They also said that Enoch should undergo an operation.
Some artists, writers, scholars, and journalists gathered today at Bandung office of Kompas daily newspaper, discussing what to do to give aid to Enoch. One of the participants suggested to stage a performance for fund raising. Other participant recommended an establishment of museum or any other facilities for preserving Enoch’s works, including several documentary films of Sundanese folk performances he made.
In 2007, prior to Enoch’s 80th birthday, a documentary film was made to portrait his dedication in Sundanese performance art. Some of his colleagues, along with scholars, were interviewed concerning the life, time, and works of Enoch. They generally state that Enoch has made great contributions to Sundanese performance art.
Herdiwan, Chairman of West Java Tourism and Cultural Bureau, wrote a short biography of Enoch and published it this year by himself. The book is entitled Enoch Atmadibrata: Kuliah di ITB, ‘Lulusnya’ jadi Jago Tari Sunda ‘Enoch Atmadibrata: Studied at ITB, “Graduated” as a Sundanese Dance Maestro’. It is a personal account of the maestro’s life, time, and works. Herdiman is the husband of Enoch’s niece. It is a tribute to the maestro.
