Prominent Sundanese singer Euis Komariah died early this morning, at around 02.30 a.m., in Bandung. She was 62 years old.
According to poet Etti R.S., who knows her well, Euis has recently been suffered from an intestinal problem. However, Euis seemed to have no serious health problem nowadays. ‘She has been organizing a programme in which singers from all over West Java participate,’ Etti said this morning.
Euis was born in Majalaya, West Java, on 9 September 1949. A mother of four, she was well-known as a tembang singer. Jalan Satapak ‘Pathway’ is one of her most celebrated songs. Euis is also known as the wife of prominent choreographer and jaipongan creator Gugum Gumbira. Various solo albums featuring Euis with her enchanting vocal have been released mainly by Jugala, a Bandung-based recording house found by her husband.
