Law scholars and practitioners gathered in a Bandung hotel this morning to discuss law enforcement for the sake of corruption eradication. Entitled ‘Optimization of the Prosecutorial Authority in Recovering Assets from Corruption through Civil Law Instruments’, the half-day seminar was organized by Paguyuban Pasundan (PP), one of the oldest socio-cultural organizations in Indonesia.
Officially opened by PP Chairman Didi Turmudzi, the seminar was attended by Deputy Attorney General for Civil and Administrative Law Dr. S.T. Burhanuddin who delivered his keynote speech. And those who present papers at the forum were Dr. Subarsyah Sumadikara (Pasundan University), Dr. Eman Suparman (commissioner of Judicial Commission), Dr. Asep Warlan Yusuf (Parahyangan Universiy), Hari Purwadi (Universitas Sebelas Maret), and Bernadeta Maria Erna Elastiani (Coordinator of Jakarta High Attorney Office).
The forum stated, among other things, that corruption eradication should not only rely on the penalization of corruption suspects, but also have to rely on the use of civil law instruments to restore assets stolen by those who committed corruption to the state.***
